Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim was a well-connected man with a wide range of interests. He lived in the exciting era of the European Enlightenment, in which education for all, tolerance and human rights were pressing issues - and still are today. Gleim envisioned a "school of humanity". He therefore intended his collections (letters, books, pictures) to benefit posterity. The Gleimhaus offers a variety of points of contact for an entertaining and eventful visit and many activities.
The newly designed children's room is a great place to linger. You can sit on the steps of a platform and read, play or listen to audio stories. The clothes and headgear can be tried on. It is also possible to make a silhouette. Please contact the Gleimhaus staff for this.

The simulation game Streit (disagreement) (duration: 3 hours / cost: €50 plus admission): The poet Gleim is celebrated as a genius of friendship. His "Temple of Friendship" is considered a prime example of the friendship culture of the Enlightenment. But don't think that there were no arguments here!
Disputes are part of friendship and they are part of life. Disputes are an integral part of communication - both in the private and social sphere. It is unavoidable because people have different interests. And some say it is even important, as it harbours opportunities for rapprochement. The decisive factor is that it is dealt with constructively. The ability to argue is therefore a human and democratic virtue that makes living together easier. The workshop begins with an introduction to several quarrelsome figures and their disputes within Gleim’s “Temple of Friendship”. This serves as preparation for a conflict simulation game. A small workshop is available for school classes and colleges.
Network simulation game (duration: 3 hours / cost: €50 plus admission): Circle of friends, acquaintance, clique, community, society, network, co-operation, college, kinship, connection ... In our different areas of life, we operate in a variety of connections. The Gleimhaus is characterised by the spirit of friendship and cooperation. Friendship was an essential part of Gleim's life. Looking at individual networks in Gleim's Temple of Friendship and their mission serves as preparation for the simulation game. No previous knowledge required. With a team-building effect and fun factor. A small workshop is available for school classes and colleges.
If you don't understand where you come from, you can't change anything. We want to awaken interest in the present. To do this, we show a piece of the past. Because the two are connected and determine our future. Because many things were different in the Age of Enlightenment, which we are talking about here, but some things also remained the same.
